Andre Chaplin Photography

Here I am.

I am a current resident of Chicago where I am pursuing my doctorate in clinical neuropsychology.

My primary medium of work is digital photography, but I am always in pursuit of new tools of expression; my current weapon of choice is the Olympus C-8080 Wide Zoom. I dabble in abstract art, but feel my skills are in their infancy. That being said, I feel expression and “skill” need not relate. The inspiration for my work comes from visualizations (in my head). I often imagine scenes, images or emotions and seek to capture them in my environment. If that fails, I represent them in a shade-less, dramatically over simplified abstract piece. I often sketch what I imagine scenes or emotions would look like if they were to be reduced to simple shapes and colors.

My art is about context and accentuating simplicity. Most of my work is in black and white because I feel the eye is more attracted to subtleties of a scene in the absence of the busyness of color (not to hate on color; color is good). I suppose one could say I’m ockhamistic in my work, but that would just sound pretentious.

Enjoy!
Andre
